Keeping order is tough work. The lower-class population on the city of the Ark has gotten tired of the wealth disparity and, as a result, have decided to take matters into their own hands. The Ark's security force is in charge of violently squashing the equally violent rebellion.
1. Gameplay _
_That’s all I understood from the cutscenes. I never truly understood what the purpose of the rebellion was even though I played through the entire rebellion campaign. I hardly ever understood why I was supposed to accomplish the tasks given. Story-based motivation was entirely lacking. The game simply told me “blow up this pillar” or “hack this computer”, so I did. _The thing that I find most amusing, though, is that even if the cutscenes had been excluded the game still would have been entertaining. It was clearly designed to compete directly with Team Fortress 2, and in my opinion it does so with few major flaws. It allows for a high level of customizability, the changing of classes mid-game, and weapons are not tied to any particular class. If you want to be an heavy-weight “operative” (aka a spy) who carries around a large minigun and isn’t afraid to take a few bullets, you can do so. If you prefer to be a fast, light-weight “medic” who rushes from location to location healing your allies, you can do that as well. _The only reason why I even bothered putting up with the campaign is that I gained experience points for doing so that transferred over to the multiplayer side of the game as well. It was an excellent motivator for completing the single player and getting me to continue on to the multiplayer. Considering the maps and scenarios are exactly the same in both (but in multiplayer the game substitutes computer players for real people), I had no problem moving from one side of the game to the other. It’s actually one of the first enjoyable multiplayer experiences I’ve had in years. _I’m going to write another paragraph just to emphasize what I just said: Brink is one of the first enjoyable multiplayer experiences I’ve had in years. That’s right, I just put Brink up with the likes of Left 4 Dead and Modern Warfare. _One of the best features about this game is the fact that it almost completely excludes snipers. That’s right, camping is virtually impossible in this game. So instead of sitting back and trying to take out an enemy from across the map, players will have to get up close and personal where victories are a matter of fast reflexes and a lot of luck. _There was one major problem that I had with this game, the balancing system of the scenario-based multiplayer games was completely off. The attacking team in a scenario would always have a severe disadvantage compared to the defending team. Teams of equal skill would quickly find themselves in a complete stalemate. The problem is that in addition to trying to kill the members of the opposite team, the attacking team has to try and complete an objective. The defending team only has to prevent the objective from being completed, which can be accomplished through the secondary task of killing every member of the opposing team. This results in long, tedious matches that ultimately result in one side losing in a very predictable manner. _This still didn’t matter. In the end I usually ignored the objectives completely and just went on a killing spree, which was thoroughly enjoyable. This was definitely a fun game. _

2. Parental Notices _
_Units are not instantly killed upon losing their life. Instead, they are incapacitated and fall to the ground. For the most part, units on the ground are unable to do anything. _If a downed player decides to respawn back at the starting position instead of waiting for a medic to heal them, or if the downed player receives more damage after being down, the player will die and be forced to restart at the team spawn location. _There is no gore present in this game. _
_
_If a player is incapacitated, medics can throw them an injection hypo so the player can inject himself and get back in the fight. _In at least one of the cutscenes, the leader of the rebellion is seen smoking a cigar. _
3. Other Factors _
_
_
_
_There was some use of the chat feature during the game, but for the most part it was civil. Some players would question others’ choices in weaponry, but nobody commented on skill or accused others of cheating. _
_The parkour moves are daring, but hardly ever extremely dangerous. _
_
One of the missions somehow involves biological weapons. I was never really 100% clear on whether or not the rebels were attempting to steal the technology or create it themselves. However, it never seems as though biological weaponry is ever used. _Hostages In the Security campaign, one mission involves preventing a scientist from being kidnapped by the Rebels. In that same mission during the Rebel campaign, the Rebels say that they are liberating the scientist from the Security forces. _Terrorism
Many of the actions of the rebels, no matter which campaign the player is completing, can easily be viewed as terrorism. The rebels seek to induce fear in their oppressors so that actions can be made in their favor.
