The Autobots and Decepticons are locked in an endless war that has ravaged their planet. Now the last surviving remnants of both factions must try to take control of all that is left or face certain destruction.
1. Gameplay
Transformers are the epitome of awesome to a young boy. Part robot, part vehicle, throw in a dash of ninja sword combat, sprinkle in some robot dinosaurs, and it’s basically every kid’s perfect world. I was a fan of the TV show, but the movies brought it to a whole new level. While many TV show and movie-based video games are terrible, somehow War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron are two of the best examples of how movie games should be written. Before you tell me off about how these aren’t movie games since they don’t follow any of the stories from the movies, let me stop you right there and say that I already know. But the reality is that these games are voice acted by some of the same actors from the movies and the characters are all mimicked in design directly from the movies, so these are about as close to movie games as we can get without actually being movie games. Either way, Fall of Cybertron is very well done. Players will take control of a number of different Autobots and Decepticons as both engage in the final battle for Cybertron. While those familiar with Transformers will know exactly what happens to the planet, the suspense comes in how it all happens. This game tells the tale and lets the player participate in all of the action. Certain sections were more interesting than others, but the last chapter was awesome. The player jumps between multiple characters within a few minutes as the climax of the tale unfolds. It was a great sequence that made me excited for the next chapter of this saga.
It took me around 7 hours to complete the campaign with both optional endings. The game was a lot of fun, but without any choices in the story (other than the ending) there is very little replay value in the campaign. There is a multiplayer for this game, but it tends to boil down to the standard objective-based team combat.
Much of what made the previous game frustrating has been solved, although I would advise PC users to use a controller rather than trying to use a mouse and keyboard. There were times when I felt like the enemy was slightly overwhelming, but these were very rare and could usually be solved by taking the time to look for new weapons or a new strategy. The only times when I was particularly frustrated came when I simply couldn’t find my way through to the next area. These came at one or two times over the course of the campaign, but I ended up having to look up what to do next. Usually I simply wasn’t looking in the right area or didn’t do things in the right order. I could always progress, but not without a good deal of searching first. 2. Parental Notices
While violence is a constant presence in this game, it is mitigated by the fact that all of the characters are robots. The player will have a wide variety of weapons to use against enemies, but hits from these weapons will only result in some sparks. On rare occasions, an enemy may lose a limb, but it’s not overtly violent when it does happen. Melee attacks can be a bit more brutal. While I tended to avoid combat that would require close-quarters melee attacks, there were a number of occasions when it was necessary or encouraged. The melee attack varies depending on which character the player is controlling, but the attacks usually have similar effects. Enemies can be split into pieces by the attack and an oil-like fluid splashes from the wounds. This oil can splash onto the screen. The attack is over very quickly though.
Sexuality is not a factor in this game.
Substances are not a factor in this game.
Gambling is not a factor in this game. 3. Other Factors
There are no modding tools available for this game.
Religion is not a factor in this game.
The conflict in this game is a civil war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Because of this war, there are no laws to enforce. As a result, anti-law is not a factor in this game.
What remains of the online community for this game is a tough bunch. Matches were all civil, but I felt completely outclassed. The other players had significantly better equipment and knew how to use it. New players should expect to be frustrated in trying the multiplayer modes.
There are plenty of sections that involve high speed driving, dangerous jumps, and jet flights. However, the fact that the characters are all robots in a clearly fictitious environment prevents this from being a serious factor.
Magic is not a factor in this game.
Torture In one section a few of the Autobots are captured and modified by a Decepticon. They are fused with the parts of some sort of robotic insect species, turning them into dinosauric robots (popularized in the Beast Wars series). The insect species are also experimented on and tortured.
